Association will also recognize the Academy for Manufacturing Careers for its contributions to Lomar’s training program and will honor Lomar employee Scott Wyer for successfully completing his Journeyman’s certificate in Machine Maintenance. The Impact awards will be presented by state legislators at a ceremony to be held February 22 in Lansing. Lomar is one of 20 companies statewide who will be recognized at the event. The awards showcase the partnerships between local Michigan Works! agencies, businesses and training providers and also recognize employees who advance their careers as a result of these partnerships.

Lomar invested $33,675.00 in training their employees last year, and is on schedule to invest another $31,365.00 in employee training this year. “It is clear that Lomar’s dedication to producing high quality products starts with the owner Ron Geisman” said Jim Coutu, Business Services Manager for Michigan Works! Southeast. “They are committed to hiring, training and retaining a skilled workforce that currently includes 140 total employees, 25 whom are Journeyman and 11 apprentices,” he said.

The Academy for Manufacturing Careers offers apprenticeship trainings that have resulted in the company being spotlighted by the White House in 2014 as a ‘promising approach’ to helping the long-term unemployed re-enter the job market.

“Michigan Works! Southeast has been a true advocate for our company” said Ronald Geisman, President, Lomar Machine and Tool. “The professionalism, responsiveness and valuable guidance received from the office as well as their enthusiasm in matching our company with available opportunities has enabled Lomar to better compete in the manufacturing industry through strategic trainings across our internal departments and the resources to hire new and talented individuals,” he said.

Michigan Works! Southeast is part of a statewide network of organizations that contributes to the economic prosperity of our communities by developing a strong, talented workforce. The agency serves businesses and jobseekers in the counties of Hillsdale, Jackson, Lenawee, Livingston and Washtenaw.
