Reliable transportation can make all the difference when it comes to maintaining employment and supporting a family. For Livingston County resident Albert Stewart, that stability was made possible with support from Michigan Works! Southeast and its Wheels for Workforce program.

For nearly two years, Stewart navigated daily life without a personal vehicle, relying on others to get to and from work and manage essential responsibilities. When that option was no longer available, he faced an even greater challenge — finding a dependable way to stay employed and meet his family’s needs during a difficult period.

Through the Wheels for Workforce program, Stewart secured a much-needed vehicle, restoring not only his commute but also a sense of independence and stability for his family.

“My family is very grateful to Michigan Works! for the auto program,” Stewart said. “It has made it much easier to go to work, make appointments, attend sporting events for our son or handle everyday needs, without having to depend on others for rides or be disappointed if no help is available. Again, so thankful for the help.”

By removing barriers like transportation, MWSE continues to empower individuals across the region — helping them remain in the workforce while strengthening families and communities along the way.
