After being laid off from his job as a machinist during the COVID-19 pandemic, Kinney connected with Michigan Works! Southeast to pursue his dream of becoming a vascular sonographer.

A vastly different career than where he came from, Kinney needed to go back to school to receive the required education and training to succeed in achieving his dream. He began taking classes at Jackson College in 2021 and recently graduated with his associate degree in vascular sonography.

Partnering with Michigan Works! Southeast allowed Kinney to receive assistance in the cost of tuition, required tests and clothing needed to complete his degree. With the help of MWSE, Kinney was able to successfully juggle his responsibilities with school and the competitive sonography program.

Kinney is now employed as a vascular sonographer with the University of Wisconsin Health and Clinics Authority, proving that it is never too late to achieve your dreams.

“Michigan Works was essential to me. They helped make it possible to go back to school and change life for my family and myself for the better,” said Kinney. “I now have the tools and resources to make a change in my life and in the world. Thanks to everyone who has been involved with helping me.”
