Aaron knew that he wanted a career in aviation maintenance. He was encouraged at Lansing Community College to reach out to Michigan Works for help with tuition costs. He came to the Michigan Works Southeast service center in Hillsdale to explore the possibility. Through the WIOA Adult Program, Aaron was able to attend training and, in addition, also secure funds enabling  travel between his home in Addison, Michigan and the Aviation Technology Center in Mason, Michigan.

MWSE made it possible for Aaron to attend in-person training, despite the 92 mile round trip from home to school, relieving some of the economic stress associated with the training.

The Aviation Technology Center, Lansing Community College assisted in the administration of Aaron’s training plan, tracking and record keeping, A&P DME conducted certification testing.

Aaron passed certification training and each of the three required licensing tests (General, Airframe and Powerplant). Through his training experience, Aaron got a chance to network with aircraft professionals. Aaron said one of the proudest achievements was being on the President’s List for the entire program.

Aaron achieved his Aircraft Mechanic License from the United States of America, Department of Transportation, Aviation Administration.

Aaron said he was pretty shy, but his in-person training and networking opportunities helped him build confidence. He said he was hesitant to reach our to Michigan Works, but when he did things went very well.

“I am grateful for the help I was given by Michigan Works. I may not have been able to attend my classes or taken my certification tests. I am happy for what I have accomplished and that Michigan Works Southeast was a part of that accomplishment.”  – Aaron D.
