Michigan Works! Southeast to Host the Region’s Largest Virtual Career Showcase for High School Students

SOUTHEAST MI – Michigan Works! Southeast will be hosting the region’s largest virtual career exploration event, called MiCareerQuest South, on April 22nd, 2021. Registered attendees can log in any time between 8:00am to 5:00pm to interreact with employers as their schedule allows.

40 employers will showcase their careers to over 3,000+ students and job seekers through interactive, virtual booths.  Attendees will have the opportunity to speak directly with employers and learn about our region’s in-demand industries such as healthcare, construction, advanced manufacturing, and more.

“Our industry is excited to help students understand and experience energy careers,” said Sharon Miller, Director, Strategic Talent Pipelines, at Consumers Energy.  “MiCareerQuest South introduces them to hometown opportunities that can provide prosperous futures.  Our team can connect directly with young talent to inspire and engage them,” said Miller.

The event is designed for middle and high school students.  Adult Job seekers currently enrolled in Michigan Works! Southeast’s services are invited to attend as well.

“The MiCareerQuest South virtual event is a great way for students to get information firsthand from working professionals in their career areas of interest,” said Kevin Oxley, Superintendent of the Jackson County Intermediate School District.  “MWSE has made it possible to connect young people with current employers to help them navigate the exploration of future career opportunities.  It is an easy, yet exciting chance for students to get a glimpse into their possible futures,” said Oxley.

Attendees and exhibitors can register at mwse.org/micareerquest.   A confirmation email and calendar invite, along with additional details about the event, will be provided after registration.

“This isn’t your typical career fair,” said Shamar Herron, Executive Director of Michigan Works! Southeast.  “It’s an opportunity for individuals to learn about the growing industries right here in Southeast Michigan,” said Herron.

Michigan Works! Southeast connects employers and job seekers to a better future in Hillsdale, Jackson, Lenawee, Livingston, and Washtenaw Counties as part of a statewide Michigan Works! system.
