Sometimes, a career setback can open the door to something even better. For Tim Harrah, that turning point came when he connected with Michigan Works! Southeast after being laid off from his delivery driver position.
While exploring his next steps, Harrah shared that he enjoyed being on the road and was interested in earning his commercial driver’s license (CDL). With guidance from MWSE, he was enrolled in the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) program, which provided funding for training at Suburban CDL Truck Driver Training School.
With the right support and a clear plan in place, Harrah successfully completed his training and earned his CDL. Along the way, MWSE also assisted with resume development and job search strategies — helping him confidently step into a new opportunity.
Today, Harrah is working as a truck driver with Chelsea Lumber Co., a role he genuinely enjoys and one that aligns with his interests and strengths.
“Michigan Works helped me transition into a new career by guiding me every step of the way,” Harrah said. “They helped me build a plan, explore new opportunities and gave me the confidence to move forward.”
Harrah’s journey is a powerful example of how the right support can turn uncertainty into opportunity — helping individuals not just find a job but discover a career they’re truly passionate about.
